5000 years ago, people read the sky without knowing how to write it. The difference between astronomy and astrology did not exist then. Later, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment shook these beliefs, but the idea of astral determinism remained. This is how the horoscope developed, as explained by Serge Bret-Morel, a former astrologer.
First of all, Serge Bret-Morel states that, after advocating for the recognition of astrology as a real science, twenty years ago he was forced to admit that it is not, not even one.
Western astrology developed 2500 years ago. The principle of the zodiacal constellations appears on the 5the century BC in Mesopotamia.
At the end of the 19e century occultism appeared. “This movement marks the progress of physical science, mathematics, etc.,” explains Serge Bret-Morel. Some people take astrology and try to accept it as a science.
Interpretation in astrological signs became increasingly important at the end of the 19th centurye century. During the first half of the 20e century, astrological sections began to appear in fringe magazines. Collective horoscopes were created in the 1930s, not sign by sign. “Astrology exploded after World War II,” says our guest.
Psychology and astrology mix and are interested in studying the “inner world” of people. “Astrology will become truly introspective,” says Serge Bret-Morel. On the other hand, we do not know exactly why personality characteristics are associated with astrological signs, according to the former astrologer.
Also in this program, Serge Bret-Morel differentiates between astronomy, celestial science and astrology. He also looks at the many social and scientific criticisms of astrology and explains how astrology is becoming popular again today, but in a different way.
