Is there a “special liver” diet?, asks Régine. What dietary advice would you give to someone who wants to take care of their liver?
Answer by Pierre Nys
There is no “special liver” diet, but “classic” dietary rules. We are closer to the Mediterranean diet, or even the green Mediterranean. The Mediterranean diet uses very small amounts of meat and sweets and gives pride of place to fruits, vegetables, olive oil, cereals and seeds. In the green Mediterranean, it’s the same thing, but we completely eliminate red meat and sweets. However, seafood and fish and small amounts of poultry and yogurt are allowed.

Hepatitis is a liver problem
Tyrosse’s full request:
“For 2 years, after catching Covid and hepatitis E, I could not lower my GGT-Value from 100 to 200, says Tyrosse. I do not drink a drop of alcohol and do not take any medication. My Alat , Asat are good, my blood sugar and also my cholesterol level. I am 74 years old, I am still sporty -2 hours a day-, Mediterranean diet, little meat, lemon cure in the morning on an empty stomach… on the other hand, I ate a lot of almonds, walnuts, plums, what should I change?
Answer by Pierre Nys
Continue to take care of yourself, but it is true that hepatitis can leave you with these types of effects later. Monitor regularly and check that things remain as they are, which should be the case for you.
“I eat about 3 squares of chocolate a day, is this dangerous for my liver?”
Plume’s full question:“I eat a balanced diet, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I walk once a week, but I am addicted to chocolate… About 3 squares a day, admits Plume. Mainly black 70% but sometimes others (milk). …).Is it dangerous for my liver? A gastroenterologist told me: stop eating chocolate. Another: 1 square/day, no more. But I can’t do it! What should I do?
Answer by Pierre Nys
Three squares of good quality chocolate provide about 30g of carbohydrates, even low GI (if it’s dark!). But we shouldn’t add any more “gaps” to it!
