Key word from the fourth gospel
The verb “stay”, menin in Greek, it is repeated 67 times in the Gospel and the Epistles of Saint John. This shows the importance the evangelist attaches to this expression! Sometimes he uses it in a physical, material, therefore external sense, thus writing Jesus into history: Christ “dwelled” in such and such a place, in Galilee or in Samaria, and his first disciples
“stayed with him” (John 1, 39).
